Description | Diary written in pencil, now very faded in places. The author, a resident of Virginia, relates their trip to California. In the first half of the travel journal they meet with friends, visit Los Angeles, attend church, see the ocean for the first time, make clothes for children during a Ladies Aid meeting, buy camping equipment, attend the theatre and go sightseeing, including a trip to the Mission at San Fernando. The second half of the journal gives an account of their subsequent camping trip on the outskirts of San Diego and the long train journey home. |
