Description | Diary kept by Elizabeth Heath Howe, 1791-1854, of Brookline, Massachusetts, in 1804 describing a trip to New Hampshire and Vermont with Mr. Lucas, including stops along the ways and dining with acquaintances. The journey was made on horseback and she describes in detail the views of the surrounding area and her feelings about seeing such beautiful sights as well as the development of the area and the ease at which they travel. There are also descriptions of damage caused by fires in the area. She describes in great detail the people she meets along the way, including descriptions of fashion and their relationships. |
