Description A Board of Trade policy file on hotels and tourism in which the different considerations which went into providing for tourists in an age of austerity and rationing are discussed through correspondence and reports, including the supply of sheets to hotels via the Wholesale Textiles Association, the supply of Canadian and Finnish furniture to hotels, the postwar derequisitioning of hotels, the nature of any government agency formed to assist the tourist industry, the findings of the Catering Wages Commission, and government assistance to be provided with the reconstruction of hotels and the replacement of hotel equipment damaged during the war. The economic importance of tourism and the need to get the industry back on its feet as a priority is constantly asserted by a range of government figures.
