Description Transcribed version of the diary of Miss Mary Jane Furby, who undertook a continental tour conducted by Thomas Cook in 1877. She was just 27 at the time and travelled with her friend Lizzie Dipper. The account describes, amongst others, London, Paris, Basle, the Alps, Milan, Venice and Rome. The account gives dates and times and goes into historical and technical detail about church architecture and often uses romanticised language to describe the places visited.
